Candle Blocks

Once upon a time, back in the 1960’s, designers Ceasar Stoffi and Fritz Nagel brought us the Nagel stackable candleholder. Originally designed for BMF (which is short for Bayrische Metallwaren Fabrik), it has acquired many fans and followers in the intervening 50 years. Two of these might very well be the duo at New York-based Apparatus, who have been inspired by precision tools in the creation of candle blocks. These ‘blocks’, each burning either one or two taper candles, can then be interlocked with the possibility of adding your preferred number of triangular forms.

Kub

Another designer that possibly has drawn inspiration from the stackable Nagel candleholder is Stockholm-based Erik Olovsson. From his Liljeholmen studio he creates designs with a close connection to graphic design and imagery. His *Kub* is a modular candleholder system based on a simple design concept. The individual pieces are created from solid brass cubes that are drilled to make the backbone of the system. The modular design facilitates assembling a number of combinations, allowing the user to adapt the structure according to individual taste.

Heavy Metal

The stackable candleholders from the rock and roll designers of Buster & Punch are suitably dubbed Heavy Metal. They are made from solid metals finished in four different hues, conceived through a seemingly pretentious process. How about Rose Copper, soaked in olive oil or steel cut with whisky. And it gets better; brass rubbed in beeswax and, finally, smoked bronze. The candleholders are detailed with the Buster & Punch signature knurling pattern and the solid steel cylinders can house either a tea light or tall candle. They are designed to be stacked or placed separately.
