Moki Cherry

Moki Cherry (1943–2009) has worked in a range of medium, from art, to theatre and music. Differing from other artists that came of age in the 1970s, she wasn’t solely interested in pointing at what was wrong in the power structure in society, but more in showing the different possibilities of how to live life. Her artwork was created side by side with living a green wave life, with focus on sustainability and cultural projects for children. She married the American jazz musician Don Cherry, and they quickly started to create artistic work together. They moved to Skåne, and created their own universe with children who grew up to be successful artists of their own right. In this show at Moderna, the focus is on Cherry’s work during the 1970s, but it includes pieces ranging from 1967 to 2007 where we can follow her path through music, jazz, life and art.

Moment – Moki Cherry is on display until next year at Moderna Museet
