Austrian artist Markus Schinwald has a broad range of interests that inspire him – psychology, literature, dance and the history of fashion – so it comes as no surprise that he likes to examine the human body as a cultural construction.
In his art, the psyche and its tensions are explored through sculptures. And yes, we can totally recognize the Freudian heritage in this Viennese artist, even though he now divides his time between his native country and New York.
See his splayed table legs, distorted 19th-century portraits, marionettes, films without a beginning or an end and his site-specific installations incorporating optical illusions at Magasin III, until December.
Magasin II is open Thursday- Sunday.
