In the early 60s French artist Robert Filliou stated that art was in fact born on January 17, 1,000,000 years prior, when someone dropped a sponge in a bucket of water. Yes, art is what you’d like it to be, but Filliou claims that that was the start. As a city that holds art as one of our most prized possessions, we join in the celebrations with the tenth installment of Art’s Birthday Party brought to you by Swedish Radio P2 and Södra Teatern.

The ten-year anniversary will be turned into a two-day event on January 24 and 25 with five stages featuring eclectic electronic music – diverse acts such as the Hamburg DJ Helena Hauff, the cinematic ambience of French music composer Colleen and Uwe Schmidt (Señor Coconut) guesting under his minimalist electronica moniker Atom TM.

On top of the party P2 have partnered with the European Broadcasting Union and will broadcast an international birthday party by connecting with celebrations all around Europe from Paris to Moscow on January 17 – art’s actual birth, or so we’ve been told…

Art’s Birthday Party in Stockholm, Södra Teatern, Jan 24 & 25 – broadcast 22:00 to 24:00.
Art’s Birthday celebrations around Europe broadcast, Swedish Radio P2, Jan 17 22:00 – 24:00
