This summer’s showpiece exhibition at Moderna Museet is *Efter Babel* (After Babel), which focuses on language and translation in our modern era of migration and transition. Referencing the biblical story of Babel, where God broke up the single language of man into many variations, the museum presents a range of artists who in some way deal with the subject of bridges between languages and continents. In doing so, they take advantage of a great opportunity to widen the perspective outside of the West. There are artists from several countries in the show, many of whom come from outside the normal Euro-centric perspective.

The show is staged in conjunction with Simon Castets (director of the Swiss institute in New York) and Hans Ulrich Obrist’s ”Poesin kommer att göras av alla!” and their poetry project 89plus. A project seeks to establish an understanding of the world that opened up after the revolutionary year of 1989, when the Berlin wall fell and the world wide web was invented. How has poetry and language changed since then?

There is an actual tower in the show, made by Simon Denny (New Zeeland /Germany) och Alessandro Bava (Italy/Great Britain) that reminds us of the experimental exhibition *Poesin måste göras av alla! Förändra världen!* (Moderna Museet, 1969), with elements of political and linguistic utopias.

What happens after Babel? A world with many languages, giving us the chance to move in between different language and identity – all with their own worlds.
