For the first time in Scandinavia, the Argentinean artist Adrián Villar Rojas (1980) is now showing at Moderna Museet. He often works as part of a group, with him as the artistic director or the leader of an ensemble. He likens his work to a virus that lives in and off the art world.
His work is produced outside the economy, in a constantly-moving ”nomadic” studio environment, bringing an ideological vibe to his practice. In his work, he often discusses time and how matters react to it.
That theme is once again obvious in the current show at Moderna, where their organic material base brings the possibility of life, but also shades of disintegration and death.
”Fantasma” is an enchanting museum environment, with surreal dimensions and artificial light. And it’s not just in the linguistic similarity; the room really reminds you of a mausoleum.
On display at Moderna Museet until October 25th.
