Kulturnatt

April 26 sees the return of Stockholm’s annual night of culture and with 400 events taking place at over 100 different locations all over the city the choice of what to see and do is as wonderfully bewildering as ever.

As usual, admission to every event is free and the program features music, dance, art, and film from all over the world. To give you some sort of idea of the range that’s available, we thought we’d single out a few that tickled our fancy.

Bill at the Royal Ballet. 19:00-19:30

Kungliga Baletten will be performing the contemporary piece Bill by celebrated Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal. It’s a physical and complex piece perfectly suited to displaying the talents of the Royal Ballet Company.
Free tickets for this event will be made available on the day at 12:00pm at the Opera House box office, Gustav Adolfs Torg 2

Dance Night at Mäster Olofsgården.  18:00-24:00

On the 26th Mäster Olofsgården and Dörren dance studios will be working together to give you the opportunity to experience six different styles of dance. There will be lessons in lindyhop, salsa, streetdance, flamenco, tango, and samba and you’ll also get the chance to meet and mingle with some professional dancers and choreographers. After the workshops finish at 22:15 the venue will stay open until midnight to give you the chance to try what you’ve learned out on the dance floor.
Svartmangatan 6, Gamla Stan

Art Lottery at Kaolin. 18:00-24:00

Kaolin is Sweden’s only ceramic art cooperative and at their gallery on Hornsgatan they’ll be giving visitors the opportunity to win works of art on the night. Members of the art collective will also be demonstrating their craft and creating pieces on the night.
Hornsgatan 50, Södermalm

Chilean Cueca at Birkagården 18:00-19:30

Cueca is the national folk dance of Chile and the Cueca group Los Reinetas will be giving you the opportunity to learn both the music and dance of this seductive world. Conceived from normal Chilean people’s resistance to oppressive military and religious regimes and born in the bars and brothels of Chile’s coastal cities, there is nothing shy or reserved about Cueca. The evening will feature a dance workshop, instrument workshop, and finally a performance by Los Reinetas.
Karlsbergsvägen 86 B, Vasastan

Official Afterparty at Stadshuset. 22:30-03:00

What better way to wrap up Kulturnatt than partying in the grandeur of Stockholms Stadshus? On April 26th the Blue Hall and the Gold Room will be filled with live music and DJs. Entry is free but on a first come, first served basis.
