No Man Is An Island

How better to enjoy the last few days of summer than by paying a visit to Stockholm’s archipelago? Until September 28th art gallery Artipelag hosts the exhibition *Ingen människa är en ö – konstnärliga strandhugg i Stockholms skärgård* (No Man Is An Island – artistic forays in Stockholm’s archipelago).

Starting with paintings from 19th-century artists such as Prins Eugen, Anders Zorn, Albert Engström, August Strindberg, Axel Sjöberg and J A G Acke, we get a feel for the first generation of archipelago painters.

They are followed by 60s painters like Rolf Hanson and Ernst Billgren, while.a more experimental take is found in some of the contemporary participants – Carl Boutard has collected fragments of nature from the area around Artipelag and made bronze casts gathered into a natural alphabet, and outside of the building you can listen to Madeleine Jonsson Gilles sound piece Sjökort Fem Öar (Maritime Map Five Islands).

As usual, you are welcome to take your own boat – if you have one – to Artipelag’s guest port, and not far from there, by the steam boat bridge, you can find an installation by Anna Lidbjörk. Take a different route and you can enjoy Ebba Bohlins sculpture project, installed on the water.

No Man Is An Island – Artistic Forays in the Stockholm Archipelago, on display until 28 September
