After Stockholm Art Week’s successful debut in 2013, it won’t come as a surprise that a yearly tradition has begun, but this time in the event takes place in the wake of the spring season. Collaborating with established Market Art Fair and Photomarket, the week sees many of the city’s standout museums and institutions participating with special events throughout the week. All those partaking are doing so with the collective goal of providing a broad platform for Stockholm’s art scene, for both up-and-coming and widely-recognized artists.

Last year, Stockholm Art Week did something totally out of the box, hoping to catch the eyes of art lovers internationally, and it did – with the creation of an app called “Stockholm Is Your Canvas,” people could literally dictate the way in which an artist made a piece of art. The app recorded your walking movements and the artist mimicked the route on a canvas of Stockholm, in the colour of your choice. Now the art piece is housed by a Stockholm staple – Riche.

“We want to show the ways in which Stockholm is really an art city,” Joanna Sundström, founder and director of Stockholm Art Week tells us. “This year entails even more exhibitions, fairs and pop-up shows, with most at no cost to experience. We even have Gallery Night, where many of Stockholm’s galleries are staying open later than usual.”
