21-year-old Jasmin Rastegar started DJing a year ago when she got sick of how all clubs always had one or more guys in the booth – but few, if any, girls. She wanted to change the pattern, so  she started learning everything she could about the art, and after a year of playing on the Stockholm scene she’s started a DJ collective with her friends called Gärigheter.

You’ve come a long way in your first year as a DJ – what are your plans for the next one?

I’m not sure what I’m going to do, apart from enjoying the good things in life. But until the fall I’m going to be focusing that extra bit on Gärigheter and hopefully travel a little, and then start studying in August. Haha, I guess I had some plans after all!

What makes your club nights different from all the rest?

I care about playing equally – that is, that I play an equal amount of songs by male and female artists. But above all, we try to raise up women, we play the music for them. Our concept is based on giving confidence and space for girls on the dance floor, and we do that with the music we play. Simply put, we want girls to feel confident and fabulous on a night out. Because we are! Fabulous, that is.

What’s your favourite nightspot?

In the summer, I go to Trädgården. There you can either just sit and watch people and have a great time with your friends, or sweat bullets because of all the dancing.

How do you fuel these nights on the town? Where do you go to eat?

Easy. Babas Burgare in Rågsved, their hamburgers are to die for!

Bars?

Ljunggrens! They make the tastiest drinks ever.

What do you think we will see more of on the music scene in 2014?

Girls! You can almost feel it in the air how girls are starting to take more place, especially in hip hop. Get ready!

If you could suggest one thing to improve Stockholm’s nighlife, what would it be?

Once again, girls, girls, girls. The DJ world is still very male-dominated. Book girls, let us do our thing, and make room. I also miss a true hip hop club on Södermalm, I hope to see that in the future.
