A first-year student at “Mejan“ (the Royal Academy of Art), Lap-See Lam is part of the feminist network Grupp13, and runs a monthly club called Disko Dumpling at her parent’s Chinese restaurant Bamboo Garden, together with DJ City and DJ Satan.

What can we expect when you play?

Proud mistakes, humble success and a SHigh track! (Listen for yourself at soundcloud.com/sharkhigh)!

Describe your take on the Stockholm nightlife scene in two sentences.

An ongoing trend that I hope will become standard in all contexts, is the recognition of active people in the night life scene who are not men. Grupp13 strives to question male dominated structures.

What is your favourite night spot?

Body! They have served us brilliant artists such as DonChristian, House of Ladosha, SSION, TeenGirl Fantasy and booked favourite DJs such as Jin Mustafa amongst others.

Any standout bars or restaurants?

My dream restaurant and bar hybrid would be Östgötakällaren mixed with Bamboo Garden. Both of these have a 30-year history, charismatic staff and regulars, with a great taste for music.

Look into your crystal ball and tell us about your future.

I strive to do projects in the same fashion as my parents run their restaurant – through collaboration and team spirit. Whether it’s working with an artistic idea, music or a club project. In the end I will probably end up running a restaurant!

What do you think about the future of Stockholm nightlife?

In year 2700 we will take the escalator to the moon for a drink. DJ Alien playing romantic techno.

Name one thing that could make things better on the nightclub scene.

Everyone must be paid. I have encountered many bookers with a feminist agenda while booking female DJs – but they have such a low budget that they can not offer payment even at established places. Feminist work must be paid, cultural work must be paid if there is someone making money out of it. Otherwise we will go on forever, a situation where your work will never be valued the same as male work.

Don’t miss Lap-See around town! In December her gang released their third demo compilation Disko Dumplings Dansade Demo, with artists such as DonChristian, MaxxxBass & Moon City Boys. Listen to it here.

She will also be playing at WRTW’s Friday night party at Debaser Strand on Mar 1, Lap-See and Jin Mustafa will arrange a night at Marabouparken with a focus on experimental electronic/noise/ fusion live performances.

Plus on Mar 14 Lap-See and DJ City will be doing a SHigh’s High at Under Bron.
