Those suffering from lack of social contact, or mere hunger and thirst, can now remedy their ills at a new bar and restaurant in Gamla Stan, where Pharmarium has opened in what was once Stockholm’s first pharmacy. Located on Stortorget, Pharmarium’s theme is inspired by a pharmacy that opened on this spot on March 21st 1575, and offered its clients everything from medicines to myths.
“The pharmacy was a world of healing, beauty and magic; concepts that are central to Pharmarium in everything from food and drink to the interior design,” says Daniel Azizsson, who runs Pharmarium together with his two brothers.
The design agency Stylt Trampoli – who is also behind the interiors at Stockholm restaurants Trattorian and Bistro Rigoletto, among others – has created a cosy space which, with its wooden shelves, cabinets and black-and-white checked floors brings to mind pharmacies of the old days. The cocktails feature ingredients such as gold powder, angelica root and absinth, and each has been created to complement a dish on the menu.
