Grolsch Block Party takes place again on August 16, bringing together restaurants, bars, and clubs into one overflowing ocean of culture, and this year Grolsch has focused on the craze over food trucks. Some of our favorites are on the list to be there – Fred’s, BunBun, and El Taco.

The creators of Grolsch believe that street food needs a real platform to become introduced to the residents of our city. The party aims to bring together all of those who are passionate about culture for a day, filled with great food, music, and art. Rickard Svensson, marketing manager for the event, gave us an insight on the idea for 2013.

What unique things should people expect at the Block Party this year?

At every block party there is a wide variety of artists, dancing, food, and unexpected pop-ups. You’ll have a lot of great bands that we will reveal as time goes on but one of our favourites already announced is Postiljonen. It’s a great honor to have them because they’re very talented and it’s one of their first live gigs in Stockholm.

The cultural magazine Mets will have an exhibition, and apart from the gathering of the best food trucks in Sweden, we’ll also be able to sample the delights of some international food trucks that will be coming to town.

Block Party is all about alternative culture, artists and exhibitions. We give them a stage to meet current fans and gain new ones.

Why do you think Stockholm needs street food?

If you look at high-end gourmet food in Stockholm, we’ve been quite successful in recent years. So as far as food is concerned we’ve been at the forefront – unfortunately, when it comes to street food we are lagging behind.

Street food is a way of evolving food for everyday life. The Block Party is a platform for alternative culture and food is a big part of that so we want to open doors for street food so Stockholm can excel in that field as well.
