Christmas Tradition

benke (1)

You know Christmas is just around the corner when a new Benke Rydman piece hits the stage at Dansens Hus. After the phenomenal success of the Swan Lake and Macbeth, Rydman is back again with his latest work: Stop. Play. Rewind. – The Monopoly Game.

As before, we get a streetwise interpretation scored by some of the most interesting names in music today – this time including Mando Diao and Andreas Kleerup. But Rydman ups his game with Stop. Play. Rewind. and keeps on challenging the dance form and the audience itself. In this new show, the dancers play a game in which they build up everything from an empty stage until it explodes in a visual crescendo. In fact, all the set design and lighting is set up by the dancers during the actual performance. Along the way, the dancers are knocked out of the game one by one, until the audience enters the game and votes for a winner of The Monopoly Game.

Although Rydman’s shows are perhaps not the most festive, his shady visions are perfectly suited for the darkest time of the year.

Stop. Play. Rewind. – The Monopoly Game premieres at Dansens Hus on Nov. 29th and runs until Jan. 11th
