DESIGN: 3 x Sweden Goes Milan

Pur

Numerous designs conceived by Swedish creatives were again showcased at this year’s edition of the Il Salone del Mobile furniture fair in Milan. Among the highlights were the design team at Note, who showcased their new pleasantly shaped chair Pur for Italian brand Zilio A&C.

Even if the straight-forward design and wood materials used to fabricate Pur do not necessarily look super-comfy, the designers claim that it is a chair pleasant enough to spend quite some time on. The name Pur implies purity and genuine properties, and the craftsmanship is as solid as one can expect. The chair, which is also stackable, comes in a range of different colours.

Scribble

Swedish designer collective Front (made up by trio Sofia Lagerkvist, Charlotte von der Lancken and Anna Lindgren) have created a series of colourful rugs for Dutch home decor retailer Moooi.

The rugs, dubbed Scribble, are a result of hand-drawn sketches of irregular shapes, replicated in giant size to function as floor embellishers in your living room. The carpets are produced using a giant machine that measures 100 meters long. Its size allows it to print designs up to four meters wide in unlimited colours, without having to change the dye injectors in its Chromojet printer.

Embroidery Chair

Kudos to Johan Lindstén, who recently presented – you guessed it – yet a new chair for Cappellini at the furniture fair in Milan. Kudos, because the chair actually has quite some originality to it. Instead of the ubiquitous grey felt materials that for the last ten years or so has adorned many a Scandinavian piece, Lindstén has designed a statement chair using ancient embroidery techniques to replicate ancient times in a contemporary interpretation. The embroidery is part of a fusion where art, photography, design and function are equally mixed.
