Fair Enough

New year, new things! The largest convention for Nordic interior design, Formex returns in January with a focus on the Nordic kitchen and also boasts its very own pop-up restaurant. Other themes for this year’s run are Nordic Neat (otherwise known as the well familiar ordning & reda), Nordic Essence, which will focus on bio-based and recycled materials, Nordic Motion, all about reflecting a sporty lifestyle in the home, and Nordic Folk, showcasing the influence of folk tradition on young Scandinavian designers. All you’ve got to do is show up with your New Year resolutions for your home and saunter through hundreds of stalls manned by talented designers specializing in everything from ceramics and cookware to furniture and fashion. Pretty good start of the year, we think.

And if you don’t get your fill (or break your bank) at Formex, you won’t have to wait long for the next big dose of design. Stockholm Furniture and Northern Light Fair is the world’s largest meeting place for Scandinavian furniture and lighting design and takes place during Stockholm Design Week at the beginning of February. Here, highlights include an ambitious exhibition titled Inside Scandinavian Design, focusing on the values of modern Scandinavian furniture design, and a trend exhibition created by talented interior designers who will predict the coming year in all things design. The guest of honour this year is Ilse Crawford, who has been named one of the most influential designers in the UK and her design studio, GamFratesi, is now in high demand around the world, with the Stockholm hotel Ett hem being one example.
