Åsa Linderborg’s critically-acclaimed novel has already been made into an equally well-
received film and is now brought to the stage by director Michaela Granit. Mig Äger Ingen tells the harrowing story of the author’s childhood in Västerås as she attempts to cope with her father’s alcoholism in the wake of her mother’s departure from the family home. Set in 1970s Sweden, questions of class and alienation loom large as the relationship between father and daughter becomes contorted and ever more unrecognisable. The young child gradually comes to understand that her father has come to depend on her as much as she on him, whilst also realizing that her survival depends on escaping the situation. This is an uncompromising and powerful examination of a child’s experiences struggling with circumstances beyond her understanding.
