Winning photo by Jesper AnhedeSwedish adventure photographer Jesper Anhede has won the prestigious People’s Choice 2013 Travel Photography Award.

The awards, which are brand new this year, attracted a record number of entries from around the world by offering a total prize package of over $20,000 in prizes. Anhede splits his time between Stockholm, Gothenburg and adventures further afield. His portfolio of travel images stood out to the judges.

Phil KeoghanThe award judges included five working professionals in the travel and photography industries, as well as Phil Keoghan – the host of the Amazing Race. Stage One of the judging saw the judges choose 40 finalist entries, which were then individually scored by each judge with the top combined scores taking out the winning prizes.

The Awards Administrator Catherine McLennan said: “The overall quality was very high and there were some amazing images submitted. The winning portfolios were those entries that were able to sustain that quality through all five of their images; visually and creatively telling a story about a place – documenting the people, the land or the culture found there.”
