A familiar face from TV and a highly-regarded blogger, Elsa Billgren has repeatedly wowed us with her unique style and dedication to the vintage fashion world. After heading PR for Beyond Retro Elsa continues to successfully highlight the beauty of old-fashioned styles.

Stockholm’s Vintage Belle?

Her debut book release, Elsa Billgren Vintage, draws further attention to a fashion staple that is flourishing on Stockholm’s streets. Here, Elsa speaks to us about her new book and the vintage scene in our city.

How do you define “vintage fashion” and what makes you love it so much?

Vintage is old, great clothes from 1920-1969. Before is antique and after is second-hand! I love the time it took to make them, the stories they tell and the great things they do to my body.

Did you ever think it was something that would take over your career?

Absolutely not. Vintage is not a job I told myself, but it sure became that. I think people love when you are passionate, and I’m surely passionate about vintage.

Is there something particularly special about the vintage fashion scene here in Stockholm?

I think it’s very broad and trendy. A lot of people dress in vintage, even if it’s just a belt. We have loads of American vintage here through Beyond Retro so there’s a lot of colour and fun.

You have said that in your new book readers will find things such as how to wash silk or reviews on your favorite dresses. Are there other unique things that you have featured?

Absolutely! I wrote a lot about my largest interest, wedding dresses and of course when my entire apartment (with all my dresses) burnt in a fire.

What is the most exciting part of your book that you cannot wait for your readers to discover?

Why I don’t wear pants.

Is there a store in Stockholm that really exemplifies your style?

I love Old Touch on Upplandsgatan. They have great prices and a lot of really old things but Beyond Retro is my baby. I’ve worked with them for so many years and my entire wardrobe is filled with dresses from that place!

Finally, give us three vintage clothing must haves for 2013?

A large Brigitte Bardot beach hat, some croc open toe sandals from the 40’s and a complete luggage set in a bright color. Vagabond glamour!
