Even though his childhood was focused on Oakland, California – where he was born-and-raised – Alvin Hart spent much time with relatives in the northern hills of Mississippi, around Carroll County. His country blues has received much praise; some even say that Alvin Youngblood Hart is the world’s most prominent performer within this musical genre. His country blues is often pinned down with such authenticity, you’d think he’s done nothing more than play music in the mountains his entire life. His guitar skills combined with a love for both country blues and guitar rock marries extremely well. Add a great singing voice to that mixture and you have a full-blown artist.

Even though Oakland wouldn’t provide the young Alvin Hart with the genuine country blues his Mississippi kin could offer, his music is often claimed to have strong 1960s and 1970s guitar rock influences. California served as the perfect place for influences of that kind of musical style – being young in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

The blend of country blues and the guitar-focused rock is often displayed by Mr. Hart – particularly on the 2005 album Motivational Speaker. He was also part of an Emmy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album in 2005, given to the compilation album Beautiful Dreamer. The album consists of songs by Stephen Foster. A real legend enters our Scandinavian waters, and it’d be a shame to miss it.

Alvin Youngblood Hart is at Stampen on April 7.
