EAST INDIA YOUTH (21:30)

The demo is really not dead. Just ask William Doyle – or East India Youth as he calls himself when he makes crossing genre poptronica. It was a demo disc in the right music journalist’s fist, which got the journalist to start the record company where the East India Youth’s debut EP Hostel was released.

Born and raised in Bournemoth on the UK south coast, but living in London, William Doyle got tired of the restrictive format of his indie pop band The Four Fathers. Doyle wanted more, evolve more and experiment more. The result of his defection from the band became East India Youth. After last year’s critically embraced EP East India Youth currently is working on a full-length debut Total Strife Forever. As an updated Brian Eno, Doyle jumps between impulses and influences on Total Strife Forever. Drone, indiepop, krautrock and poptronica mixed in an equally tender dance-mix, with NME and Gaffa to pick up the squeaky reviews.

JAAKKO EINO KALEVI (20:30)

Jaakko Eino Kalevi has long ranked as one of Finland’s most promising musicians. And now it really is time for the world outside the Helsinki area to open their eyes to his dreamy, imaginative creations. It’s as if Air and Phoenix joined forces to write an uplifting and playful soundtrack for the night bus home. Jaakko Eino Kalevis’ music is the perfect ending to the day, as you never want to end.

Last year he released Kalevi EP Dream Zone, which now has a new incarnation in the form of a fully sovereign remix EP.

Do not miss the East India Yout and Jaakko Eino Kalevi at Debaser Strand on April 16.
