As they have a song called Text From Sweden on their debut album Yoncalla, it was only right and proper that Yumi Zouma played here. The New Zealand four-piece are specialists in smooth dream-pop with a splash of disco, and Yoncalla was a highlight of 2016. They have an innovative streak too: asked to cover a classic album by website Turntable Kitchen, they turned to Oasis’ (What’s The Story) Morning Glory, and transformed it into a shoegaze synthwork masterpiece that Noel Gallagher never saw coming. They might even play a song from it at their Debaser gig in October. If not, Yoncalla is plenty good too. And just last week their new record Willowbank landed, so it’s prime time to catch them live.
