Hold up! There are other artists from Toronto than Drake? Yes, there is, and The Hidden Cameras have been in the game longer than you’d ever guess.

With singer/songwriter Joel Gibb as a driving force, The Hidden Cameras have been making music since their 2001 debut Ecce Homo. Their music stands on a foundation of quuer politics, sexuality and symphonic indie pop. Bands like Belle & Sebastian and The Magnetic Fields have been used to explain what The Hidden Cameras sound like, although they deserve their own description. The strings, synthesizers and often lo-fi recordings with what comes off as spontaneous creative flows are pretty amazing actually.

The Hidden Cameras were the first Canadian band ever to be signed to Rough Trade. Their live gigs are known for including around thirty-or-so go-go dancers, strippers, projections and including the audience. The night at Debaser Strand could mean just that. Make sure you don’t miss these gay church folk musicians, as they’ve been so eloquently described in the past.
