Channy Leaneagh of Poliça

Minneapolis always aims to please, producing amazing talents such as the psychedelic R&B and pop-soul star Poliça. Poliça consists of producer Ryan Olson and front singer Channy Leanagh whose greatly distorted voice extends over dreamy atmospheres.

After having collaborated with the band Gayngs in 2010, it became evident that Channy and Ryan would be do well on their own. Ryan’s sense of pop and electronic adventurism proves to be the perfect vehicle for Channy’s growth and development as a vocalist and dynamic experimentalist. The debut album “Give You the Ghost” was released in 2012 and their second album came out in October 2013 named “Shulamith.” The album was recorded with features from Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, who called Poliça “the best band I’ve ever heard.”

The name Poliça refers to the word “politics,” a definite course of action adopted for the benefit of opportunism, which suggests that they were formed out of necessity. Which is exactly how Poliça feels and sounds – urgent, original and genre-challenging. And for music-lovers of all kinds seeing Poliça is absolutely necessary.

First up tonight we Marijuana Deathsquads (U.S.). It’s only fitting to have another Minneapolis native band open for Poliça. Their sound fits nicely with the atmosphere for the night and follows the same experimental styling’s of Ryan and Channy – their drummer, Ben Ivascu actually performs with Poliça at their live shows as well. Their latest LP was released in October 2013 and was labeled “ferocious” by Spin magazine.
