Sophie-Zelmani

Appearing in the midst of the 90s craze of fantastic, Swedish female singer-songwriters, Sophie Zelmani has put out ten original albums and influenced countless of following acts since 1995. Together with artists such as Lisa Ekdahl, Nina Persson of the Cardigans and Cajsa Stina Åkerström, Zelmani took over the nineties with inspiring and strong music in a male dominated world.

She’s been photographed several times by world photographer Anton Corbijn, and her first single ever released Always you appeared in the film My Best Friends Wedding starring Julia Roberts.

Her own label, Oh Dear Recordings, is making its first release on March 19. It’s an album by Zelmani that consists of old recordings dressed in a new outfit. The re-recordings of her old songs are a real pleasure, and her album Going Home comes off as a sort-of goodbye. Good thing a whole other album, with newly written songs, is planned to release in the fall. But first, make sure you go see Zelmani perform her old songs with spirit and passion, at Totally Stockholm’s favorite spots, Södra Teatern.
