GIG: BABY JESUS & MANKIND
You might remember MANKIND from our bands to watch list a few weeks ago. You’ll get a chance to catch their scorched-earth rock’n’roll live this weekend as they perform live at Cantina Real. They’ll be joined by Halmstad-raised, Copenhagen based gang Baby Jesus, a band that specialise in slack, pysch-edged scuzz-rock. If you’ve got guitars on the brain there’s only one place to go this Saturday.
CLUBBING: FINSKT DISCO
What the fuck is Finskt Disco? Finnish disco is a music style that bubbled up in 70s in, as you might imagine, Finland, with driving rhythms and passionate lyrics. Finland is not so far away, so as you might imagine it made its way to Stockholm eventually. Södra Teatern is having a special party for the genre this weekend, with WINDOWS 95 MAN DJing and more. Bring your jean shorts.
MUSICAL: THE BOOK OF MORMON
Missionary work in a foreign country is an almost obligatory part of life for members of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, aka Mormons. That fact made for fruitful source material for South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, as well as their co-writer Robert Lopez, who used it as the plot hook for the enormo-success musical The Book Of Mormon. A chaotically controversial show where the ministers are menaced by irrelevance, African dictators and the very existence of coffee, it’s now been reworked into Swedish for its premiere at Chinateatern in January. The first time the musical has been performed in a non-English language, if you have a high tolerance for offensiveness and jokes on the lower end of the maturity scale it might be for you.
Feb 10, 11, Chinateatern.
