The best of Scandinavian interior design, textiles and fashion will be on show at Formex, the Nordic design fair, this weekend. The event which takes place at Stockholmsmässan will host a special centenary exhibition of Moomin characters in memory of their creator, the Finnish pictorial artist and author Tove Jansson.
Jansson’s first book, The Moomins and the Great Flood, appeared in 1945, though it was the next two books, Comet in Moominland and Finn Family Moomintroll, published in 1946 and 1948 respectively, that brought her fame. Today her books have been translated into 44 languages and a variety of animations.
Interior designer Frida Wanselius has designed the Moomin exhibition at Formex. Wanselius is well-known from the Swedish TV-shows Room Service and Äntligen Hemma as well as from her work with Hemtex and Odd Molly.
Wanselius has used Jansson’s graphical designs to bring the realm of the storybook into interior design in an inspiring and playful way.
Littala, Martinex, Raben & Sjögren, Muurla, Finalyson and Le Klint are some of the companies that are presenting some of the Moomin commemorative products at the event.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of any anniversary Moomin products will be donated to help UNICEF’s work in promoting children’s learning around the world.
