F1-6 is back for another run in the beautiful building of Fotografiska! The famous photograph museum will change its style for six nights until April into a colossal dance floor housing the best of house and electronic music. For those of you who didn’t have a chance to check out F1-6 last year you’re in store for things way beyond what you’re used to. This new club night is known for honing in elements from some of the world’s most famous venues outside of Stockholm and is sure to completely revamp the Stockholm dance club scene with a different take on things.
The premiere of F1-6 will be happening this Saturday night and is set to have not one but ten major DJs bred from our own waters and beyond. The artists include Josh Wink, Metro Area Live, Subb-an, Genius of Time Live, LSR, Maya Lourenço, Current Current, Fabian Bruhn, Nadja Chatti and Major Briggs. The night will also be a part of Red Bull Music Academy Weekender so it will combine the magic of two experiences into one! I had a chance to chat with the creators of the concept, Viktor Blomstergren, Andreas Leander-Engström and Mattias Hedlund, who gave us some insight on F1-6 and what’s to come!
What is the idea behind the concept of F1-6?
We wanted to create something different, a lot of clubs in Stockholm are based around just music – our goal was to combine artists from abroad with interior design and a visual experience. We are also adding very interesting up and coming Swedish DJs and live performances, and I think that it fits our club perfectly.
What can people expect from the club nights this year? Will it be any different from last year?
We took the best parts from last season and made it even better, and the worst and made it good. The feedback from last year was very important of course so it helped us to make the appropriate fixes. Are we changing anything this season? Yes we are – brand new decorations, more interesting artists and also an extra hour of opening time. Even if you stopped by last year expect a new experience, please feel free to pop by and have a look for yourself!
What special things are planned for the premiere?
During the premiere of F 1–6, November 2 we are a part of the Red Bull Weekender. Our premiere is about showing what we’ve worked on and how the five following events will fit together, from the details in the interior to the whole layout of the night.
How do you think this club compares to other clubs in Stockholm? What makes it unique compared to the many other dance clubs around the city?
Almost every club in the town thrives to be unique. We are doing our own thing. We have worked with many creative people that think like us and have combined our ideas in the best possible way. Our strength in our work to establish a great club lies in the creativity among the people we work with, from our booking agency in Berlin, to our interior designers, to our collective innovative ideas on how we can create a one-of-a-kind experience in our city’s nightlife. To sum it all up, I’d say that our network, which reaches over many areas of expertise, is our strength and what makes us matchless.
How have you gone about choosing artists/DJs to include in the premiere? You’ve teamed up with the Red Bull Weekender event happening this weekend – did you choose the artists together?
The F1–6 events have always been based on a certain type of music. Last summer we started to create the plan on how we could make the six events as interesting as possible and we also pinpointed out which DJs and live performances were going to be the most interesting acts to book. There will be some familiar faces but also a lot of new ones. We have done this together with Red Bull Music Academy and since their academy stands for the same values as F 1–6 it was a natural choice. Also, a former participant at the academy is playing at the premiere!
What does the future look like for F1-6?
Well the future is first having these six parties. After that we don’t really know what is up next – it is all depending on how the audience responds to what we are doing. In the end it is the crowd that will decide if it is something for Stockholm. If the response is positive we will develop the concept, as far as possible.
