Bobo Stenson is still going strong after five decades on the Swedish jazz scene. Bobo achievements are many including learning the piano at age 7, living in Paris playing the Blue Note Club, studying music and jamming with Sonny Rollins and Stan Getz. His Bobo Stenson Trio has been around for 40 years, and on November 28th, they are playing at the legendary jazz venue, Fasching, right here in Stockholm.
He is one of many legendary Swedish jazz musicians, but no one can fiddle the piano quite like Bobo. There’s a particular cover of John Coltrane’s ”Central Park West”, where Bobo’s jazzy fingers linger on every key like raindrops on a Manhattan sidewalk. The mood is captured perfectly, just like in the Coltrane version. His gentle strokes on the piano are absolutely marvelous, and have been for the past fifty-or-so years. The quality of his records has always been near perfection, and that’s exactly what you want out of a now-modern jazz musician.
Put on your best suit and order yourself a whisky sour. This night will make you feel like you’re in a smokey bar in downtown New York during the 1950s, snapping your fingers while the band makes a jazzy ruckus up on stage.
