Betula Boombox is a hiphop-centred DJ collective consisting of six young women. They’ve been playing all over town this spring and summer, and they are just getting ready for the winter.
What is your DJ-nights all about?
The right vibe, hearing your old or new favourite song and to rule the dance floor. We love floor-fillers!
What music can we expect from your DJ-nights?
Hiphop and R’n’B-hits, happy sweaty dancing people, and six welcoming smiley energetic faces in control of the music delivery!
Is there anything that catches your eye about the Stockholm nightclub scene at the moment?
We think the most interesting trend is that funk and disco is on its way up and back in style. We think – or at least hope! – that what happened a few years ago when hiphop and R’n’B had a comeback and started being played as much as house and electro at Stockholm’s most popular clubs will happen again, but this time around it’s disco’s turn to be in the spotlight. Get Lucky and Justin Timberlakes Take Back The Night should be proof enough!
What is your favourite nightspot?
Anywhere where the feeling is right and the music is tight! We just wanna have a good time and dance!
What’s your plans for the future?
Since we are made up of six individuals – and each with our own ambitions and talents – we want to build our own empire, somewhat like a PR bureau. Involving fashion, journalism, gastronomy, and politics, as well as DJing. The best part of the vision is the “working and creating with our friends,” of course.
Where is Stockholm nightlife headed?
We think and hope it will be wider in terms of eclecticism. That clubs and bars broaden horizons. And also, give us more places that are open until five! Think big and continental!
Do you feel that there are any interesting trends going on in Stockholm in general at the moment?
Women DJing and taking over stages, of course! It really is empowering to see it in the making! Something to tell the grandchildren: ” We were one of the first…!”
