Dinner Box

There is a new way to spot foodies out and about in town, which doesn’t entail looking for people with a bottle of Chablis, a sourdough baguette sticking out of their Monocle tote bag and a copy of the latest White Guide under their arm. A sure sign of food-loving Stockholmers is a brightly-coloured carton box with handles, with a pictogram of a plate, knife and fork on its sides.

The concept named Panini Middag, conceived by the restaurant chain Panini Internazionale, chef Johan Gottberg and wine connoisseur Jens Dolk, two of the creators behind lunch restaurant K-Märkt (reviewed in this issue), lets you bring home pre-prepared meals for easy preparation. The finishing touches are then done at your own kitchen counter.

Out of a total of nine dinner options – among them a bibimbap, a saffron paella, pork buns and a taco carnita – we were thrilled with the quality and the richness of flavour of the pappardelle pasta with mussels in a sour cream white wine sauce with semi-dried cocktail tomatoes. The best part of Panini Middag? Feeling like a pro at your own stove.
