Dalecarlians (Masjävlar): Saturday 28 November, 4 pm (no age limit)

Cinemateket’s monthly “Made in Sweden” screenings will screen 3 amazing director debuts classics in the upcoming months that you should not miss. First up, Maria Blom’s delightful debut Dalecarlians (Masjävlar) will be screened this Saturday.

In Dalecarlians family conflicts arise when the young professional Mia returns to her home village in the Swedish countryside, as her father turns 70. Maria Blom’s praised debut received the national film award Guldbaggen for best Swedish film.

January brings us Jan Troell’s Here Is Your Life, Nobel Prize laureate Eyvind Johnson’s novel, about young Olof growing up in the north of Sweden in the early 20th century. Recently voted as the best debut in the history of Swedish film.

Here Is Your Life (Här har du ditt liv) Saturday 23 January, 2 pm (age limit: 15)

A Swedish Love Story is the debut film from iconic Swedish director Roy Anderson. The movie is about young love in Stockholm on the brink of the 70s and at the height of modernity. Filled with beautiful images of a historic Stockholm it’s a movie that will make you nostalgic for the past. 

A Swedish Love Story (En Kärlekshistoria): Friday 4 December, 6 pm (Age limit: 7)

The Cinemateque (Cinemateket) has screened films from all over the world since 1964. Many of which are in English or have English subtitles, but this is the first time Swedish films with English subtitles will be shown more regularly. The films shown in the Made in Sweden series vary from early silent works to the contemporary, and hopefully give non Swedish speaking audiences a chance to discover Sweden through its films, in one of the biggest cinemas in Stockholm.

Tickets at Cinemateket are 70 sek (free admission for those younger than 15!) and can bought at Filmhuset before the screening, and in Kulturhuset by the Kulturdirekt counter. (They are also available online,cinemateket.se, although some of the texts on the site are in Swedish.)
