Popaganda’s big party, the two-day festival at Eriksdalbadet, isn’t until August, but in the meantime they’re having a smaller, one day festival at Galärparken this Saturday. The line-up is full of some of the most exciting new bands around, we thought we’d pick out a few of the highlights.
BOYS
Boys, despite the name, is actually the solo project of Nora Karlsson, who also plays guitar in fellow Umeå band Holy. She’s recently released a brand new EP, Love On Tour, on Stockholm label PNKSLM, and it’s a mix of bright, peppy indie and slower, more atmospheric dream-rock. She plays at 1800.
I AM KARATE
Synth-pop duo I AM KARATE (singers, songwriters and producers Erika Soldh Ahlström and Marta Pettersson) have just released their debut EP In Thin Air. Tracks like ‘Bitter’ are electro-pop with a slick R’n’B edge. Check them out at 1900.
MAVRICK
Wrapping up the performances on Saturday is Mavrick, whose style of big emotional pop earned his debut single ‘Remedy’ almost a million Spotify plays. His new single, ‘Funeral’, is quickly catching up on nearly 300,000 plays, and you can see him peform both when he headlines at 2100.
F.N.Y.
Things don’t have to end at Galärparken however.This year there will also be an afterparty at Södra Bar, with a set by record label Woah Dad!’s newest signing F.N.Y. F.N.Y., aka Fanny Hultman, who formerly made English-language pop music under the name Nuoli, has switched things up and now writes gitchy, Swedish-language electro R’n’B on her new EP 4april till 3juni (the highlight of which, ‘Duktig’, was banned/ not played by many radio stations for being too explicit). It starts at Södra Bar at 2200.
