Textile production and computers don’t appear to have a great deal in common, but there’s more to their relationship than meets the eye. The Jacquard loom’s use of punched cards to input patterns was a major inspiration for early computers. Pattern recognition is the key term here, and art expert Paola Torres Núñez del Prado explores its origins in textiles and later application to the world of artificial intelligence and computing in Marabouparken konsthall’s lecture, Following the song’s threads: From traditional textiles to new technologies. It’s part of their Textila Undertexter exhibition, and it takes place tonight at 18. Admission is 50SEK. The lecture will be in English.
