Theatre Highlight: The Book Of Mormon

Posted January 26, 2017 in Arts

Missionary work in a foreign country is an almost obligatory part of life for members of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, aka Mormons. That fact made for fruitful source material for South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, as well as their co-writer Robert Lopez, who used it as the plot hook for the enormo-success musical The Book Of Mormon. A chaotically controversial show where the ministers are menaced by irrelevance, African dictators and the very existence of coffee, it’s now been reworked into Swedish for its premiere at Chinateatern in January. The first time the musical has been performed in a non-English language, if you have a high tolerance for offensiveness and jokes on the lower end of the maturity scale it might be for you.

The Book Of Mormon, Chinateatern, Opens Jan 26
