Tove Styrke put out her Kiddo album two years ago in 2015, and it was one of the best things released that year, brightly coloured hyper-pop that was jam packed with infectious melodies and monster choruses. It’s been quiet from her for a while now, but she’s gearing up for a big year in 2017 and has just dropped a brand new single, ‘Say My Name’. It’s a more minimalistic song than the material on Kiddo, a laid-back pop song built around a skittering riff and a bouncing beat, and one that’s loaded with rhythm by Styrke’s slick vocal melodies.
On the song, Styrke says: “The stronger I sing, the less I can affect the song. The more quietly I sing, the greater the differences will be in the tone and texture. A lot of people are afraid to talk loudly, but there is a strength to talking quietly – thus people really have to listen to you. There’s no need to try to be a man in a man’s world”. ‘Say My Name’ is out now on Sony, and Styrke just dropped the video for the track.
