Weekend

GIG: HABIB1

HABIB1 are the city’s cool kids right now, as you can tell from the fact that their debut EP Selfish just dropped on The Fader. Selfish is a futuristic, glitchy take on dance music, the duo (Katherine Zevallos and Tina Mofidy Rouhisaying) saying “During the making of Selfish, we realised that in order to unleash any inner source of creativity you have to let go of rules and regulations. We dissected sounds that made us feel a certain way and focused on heavy rhythms and bass. Through the process we have laughed and danced a lot and we hope that every single person that listens to our music has those same feelings”. Selfish is out on all platforms on Friday on Cherish, and to celebrate they’re having a release party at Morfar Ginko.

MARKET: FEMINISTISK MARKNAD

Feminisitisk Marknad is a market that aims to ‘support human rights instead of capitalism this Christmas’, and they’re taking over Debaser Strand this Sunday. Less a market than a low-key celebration, there will be performances from Hanna Bergwall and Fanny Åström, and pieces for sale from a wide range of female artists. A full list of those exhibiting is available in the Facebook event.

MARKET: DESIGNMARKNAD STHLMS STORA JULMARKNAD

It’s getting dangerously close to Christmas, and minds are already starting to drift towards getting together all the presents. But for those of you who are sick of pursuing the back corners of IKEA catalogues for something original, this might be for you. Designmarknad Sthlm is hosting a design Christmas market at Färgfabriken in December, where designers and artists can offer visitors the chance to buy unique gifts for their near and dear. Even if you’re not looking to buy, it can be worth a visit just to wander around the stalls, grab a coffee and soak up an artistic version of the Christmas spirit.

MARKET: ROME IS NOT A TOWN/ MANKIND/ CO SONN

Things will be loud at Melodybox on Friday, as they’ve lined up a trio of muscular rock and roll bands. Heading the list are snarling Gothenburg four-piece Rome Is Not A Town, who even count Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore as a fan. Joining them are Stooges-inspired heavy rockers MANKIND and Lazy Octopus signees CO SONN. Matriarkatet’s Emmy Lidgren, Novembervägen’s Frida Lidgren and Lazy Octopus DJ.

MARKET: NOBELBERGET JULMARKNAD

Nobelberget’s markets have been around for a while now, and this weekend they’re going for a special Xmas edition. So you can browse and buy various bits and pieces, grab a beer at their art bar, and as it’s Christmas, even stop in for some glögg. What’s not to like?
