DESIGN: STOCKHOLM FURNITURE & LIGHT FAIR
The 2018 edition of Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair and Stockholm Design Week takes place from February 6–10, with Italian designer Paula Navone named as this year’s guest of honour. As per usual, it will be jam-packed with the best of the best when it comes to Scandinavian design. Christian Halleröd is responsible for this year’s trend exhibition. He is the name behind several much-talked-about store interiors, such as Acne Studios and Byredo. This year’s theme calls attention to the emerging challenges that designers and consumers face, as genuine materials are becoming scarce and have to be replaced by “fake” versions. This trend coincides with a growing interest in real materials, such as wood, metal, glass and leather, as well as handicrafts made from these materials. The trend expo also illuminates the growing importance of providing consumers with evocative retail experiences, given the increasingly online nature of retail. Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair follows the likes of Milan, Paris and other international exhibitions, where an increasing number of participants put more emphasis on events at their store or office locations, beyond the confinement of a trade fair booth. It’s open to the public on Saturday.

FILM: SAVING BANKSKY MAGIC CITY
Graffiti exhibition centre Magic City is closing at the end of February, but they’re not going out quietly. They have planned a whole range of activities, including showings of Colin Day’s film Saving Bansky every Sunday. And this Sunday is no exception.

CRAFT BEER: STIGBERGETS BRYGGERI TAKEOVER
Stockholm’s getting a little taste of Gothenburg’s beer scene on Saturday when the Stigbergets Bryggeri takes over at Barrels Burgers & Beer. So every one of their 8 taps will have a little west coast flavour from 12:00.

CLUB: HIP HOP KARAOKE
Hip Hop Karaoke is a club that, as the name implies, a club that gives you the chance to karaoke through your favourite hip-hop songs in front of an audience of your fellow hip-hop fans. It usually takes place at Södra Teatern, and is run by Johanna Svanelind, Elias Einhyrning, Helena Sandahl, Ellen Sjöberg, Nima Barjami, Lisa Ambjörn, Fatima Osman and Chloe Lillo. It’s back this weekend for a new round on Friday, and if you’re feeling an urge to sing you can sign up here.

GIG: SIDE EFFECTS/ THE HANGED MAN/ MANKIND
Rock club Garageland is back this weekend with another triple bill, taken from two sides of psychedelic rock music’s lightness/ darkness divide. On the upbeat side of things, there’s the light-stepping, high energy indie pop of Side Effects, who released a new EP, Feels Like Walking On Sunshine, in October last year. And then the doom rock of Rebecka Rolfart’s The Hanged Man and MANKIND‘s Stooges-influenced gutter rock take things into darker waters. Doors open at 19:00.
