FESTIVAL: POPAGANDA PÅ PARKTEATERN
A traditional part of every summer in Stockholm is tramping over to Djurgården for Popaganda På Parkteatern, Popaganda’s one-day mini-festival at Galärparken. And they’ve just announced the line-up for this year’s edition. As usual, this festival focuses more on up-and-coming acts than their big festival at the end of August, with a bill that includes rising stars from a broad range of genres. The bill for 2018 includes American-Swedish folk duo Flora Cash, indie-rockers Melby, genre-experimentalists Ambivalensen, dreamy pop group ViViia and fuzz-pop star Linn Koch.Emmery. There’ll also be food trucks, DJs and whatever else a festival might need onsite. Entry is free, and you can check out the official Spotify playlist featuring all the artists below.
Jul 21, 15:00-21:00, Galärparken
GIG: PNKSLM BRILLO SESSIONS
PNKSLM has a new project. The label has announced that they’ll be running a series of intimate concerts this summer at Bar Brillo. Taking over this Friday are muscle-thrash band Gestures, who’ll be bringing a level of force the posh surroundings of Brillo may never have witnessed before.
Jul 20, 20:00-00:00, Bar Brillo
FILM: STOCKHOLM UNDER STJÄRNORNA
When we brought you news of the opening of Stockholm Under Stjärnorna at the start of the summer, we mentioned that one of their plans was to show films on the big screen on their terrace high above Stockholm. And now that plan has come to fruition. Bio på SUS will be showing classic films on Sundays for six weekends this summer, starting this one with Rob Reiner’s Stand By My (1986).
Jul 22 19:00-22:00, SUS
EXHIBITION: BLOOMSBURY SPIRIT
The Bloomsbury Group was a loose collective of artists, writers and thinkers in early 20th century Britain who had gone to the same universities and socialised together in the same groups. What made them different to most upper class social circles of the time was that many of them went on to be the famous figures of the century, including writer Virginia Woolf and economist John Maynard Keynes. Artipelag’s new exhibition Bloomsbury Spirit collects together the history of the group and explores the attitudes they shared that made so many of them revolutionary figures in the new century, a group that sensed and adopted to many waves of modernism early and left their contemporaries trying to catch up.
On display between March 23 – September 30, Artipelag
EXHIBITION: PUBLIC LUXURY
After a brief closure for renovations between March and May, ArkDes returned in June with the exhibition Public Luxury. Featuring the work of architects and designers, the exhibition focuses on experimental work that asks how architecture interacts with and makes possible our society. The goal here is to spark debate and search for solutions to the big challenges faced by Swedish society. How can we create architecture that not only meets basic needs, but also goes beyond that and makes ‘the good society’ possible? With contributions from Dansbana!, Jonas Dahlberg, Johan Celsing and more, this exhibition aims to find out.
