GIG: POPPY
“Your lives are meaningless, you’re just like cockroaches, extermination’s your only hope”. Very few pop songs are from the point of view of an AI programmed to save the earth who decides the best way to do it is by wiping out humanity. But very few popstars are like Poppy. An internet art project that does music on the side, or vice verse depending on your point of view, the artist emerged out of the whispering corners of YouTube (where she makes videos like this) with a concurrent music career, and her latest single Time Is Up, a collaboration with Diplo, is the one referenced above. She plays live at Obaren on Saturday, and it’s worth it just to see how an internet creature translates to IRL.
