As we write this, it’s still technically November, so there’s a chance you might get mad at us for launching into Christmas prematurely. But look, lets face it, people have been waiting for this season to start since August, so we did well to hold out so long. Anyway, Christmas in Stockholm means Christmas Markets are opening up this month, so we decided to round up a couple so as to give you the best guide on where to do your Christmas shopping this winter season.
BLECK
South Söder restaurant Bleck comes into its own when its time for big events, having already impressed when hosting the World Cup screenings this summer. Now they’re running something very different, with a little more cosiness and Christmas atmosphere instead of, well, football.

BECKMANS
Here’s one for people interested in the future of fashion and design. Beckmans College of Design’s Christmas Market will have a range of goodies on sale designed by their students, and their cafe will be serving homemade gingerbread, kanelbullar, lussebullar and glögg and coffee.

MORFAR GINKO
Morfar Ginko’s market blends club culture and a flea market. As well as people selling their wares, there will also be DJs and a pop-up bar, as well as their barbers and tattoo studio being open. Brunch is available between 12:00 and 16:00.

LÅNGHOLMENS JULMARKNAD
This might be one of the city’s biggest. Långholmen Hotell och Restaurang organise a market on the little island with a sprawling range of activities, based around the old prison and the new prison museum. Access to the museum is free, as is a scavenger hunt for both little and big visitors. There’s a wide range of hand-crafted design available from the market, Christmas music everywhere, and a julbord meal available from the restaurant.

SERGELGATAN
Sergelgatan’s usual market goes Christmas for December, with their usual exhibitors going in a more Christmas-y direction. Classic Xmas presents and food and drink both indoors and outdoors.

LUX
A couple of months back we brought you an interview with The Ode To, a new art market founded by Helena Carlberg and Anna Lukins. Now, with Christmas on the horizon, they’re teaming up with vintage market Temporärt and design studio TypeOfor a new project. Their joint venture LUX, “a new take on the classic Christmas market”, will debut on Kronobergsgatan on Saturday, and we caught up with Carlberg and Lukins to find out more about it, and you can read that here.

FILMSTADEN
This market is the one for the cinema fan, taking place in the home of Swedish film. There’s the classic Christmas Market stuff everywhere, as well as the chance to follow in the footsteps of Garbo, Bergman and more with a guided tour.

DROTTNINGHOLM
If you’re looking for something with a little old-school charm, you’re best served by heading out to Drottningholm. There, the castle hosts a market with a wide range of Swedish handcrafts, as well as classic Swedish food like cheese, bread, fish, ham, glögg and more. The castle and the theatre are also open to visitors during the market.

DESIGNMARKNAD/FÄRGFABRIKEN
Designmarknad Sthlm’s regular markets at Färgfabriken are a highlight on the calendar for Stockholm’s design-obsessed movers and shakers, and now another edition is returning for the Christmas season. The format for this one sticks to the classic plan – around 100 designers in fields ranging from clothing to ceramics via interiors will be on-site to display and sell their wares, so if you want to make a more personal purchase it’s the place to be, as you can talk to and buy direct from the designers themselves. Färgfabriken’s Café will also be open, serving food, coffee and other treats, and keep an eye open for some special Christmas surprises. Tickets are 40kr, with entry in the door 50kr and access for children free.

KONSTFACK
One that sits in the world of craft and design opens this weekend. Art school Konstfack hosts theirs, with plenty of art and design crafted by the student on offers, as well as the chance to explore the school and grab a coffee etc etc, you get the idea.
