Jesper Waldersten is maybe one of Sweden’s most distinctive artists. Through photography, drawing and paintings, his style and aesthetic is instantly recognisable, as he depicts a world of dark, bitterly humorous and violent chaos, a playground of nihilism and sculpted fear.

Waldersten’s work has gained popularity through his illustrations in Dagens Nyheter, as well as his books and exhibitions. And now two more of the latter are on the agenda. All Over opened at Fotografiska last week, and the exhibition comes with a new book of the same title, out via Max Ström.

All Over opened with a reception on Thursday, March 7, including an artist discussion with Waldersten. Waldersten said “I have felt for a long time that I would like to have an exhibition here […] my camera is a little like my notepad.”. When asked about the darkness of his work, Waldersten said: “I think my darkness is light. I like to swim in the lake when it’s cold, and I think [creating art this dark] is a little like that”.
