Fållan

It’s been a pretty bleak year for Stockholm’s cultural and musical scenes – the boot has been put on the neck of the city’s bars and venues this year, or indeed anything that threatens to make a peep of noise after sundown. For various reasons, Nobelberget, Kägelbanan, Bitter Pils and many more have been lost, and even Debaser has been threatened. So happily, there’s a little light on the horizon now, with a new venue opening up in Slakthusområdet.

Run by the same group behind Nobelberget, Kulturarenor AB, Fållan will open up in November, consisting of a smaller venue for live music, clubs, art and other events, along with a 3500-capacity summer venue in the area’s Förbindelsehallen (which has also been home to festivals like Department and The Green Door Project). The smaller Fållan venue will have a capacity of 2400 shared between two stages, and Kulturarenor AB have secured a contract to keep it open until 2023.

Kulturarenor’s CEO Martin Lagerberg says: “We want to continue the culture that grew from Nobelberget, and continue to create progressive platforms where medium-sized national and international artists and club arrangers can find space to perform in the optimal environment. Many artists place a lot of importance on a venue’s identity and expression, and don’t want to play at a sponsored hockey arena or a carpeted conference hall. We want to create a place that doesn’t just fulfil a function, but instead is an attraction for international artists and arrangers”.

Fållan and Förbindelsehallen are slated to be part of a new cultural zone, and will be demolished, rebuilt and re-incorporated as part of this new cultural zone when their current contract expires in 2023, when the new cultural zone is set to open according to current plans.

In the meantime, Fållan opens on November 8.
