The feeling when you’ve stumbled across one of those rare musical gems is a special thing, and Ane Brun, is just that. The Norwegian singer/songwriter and guitarist is releasing her new album ´Rarities´, and will start her Songs Tour 2013 in Vienna and end in Scandinavia where she will bless us with her presence on December 3 at the Stockholm’s Cirkus theatre.
It’s difficult to determine where she’s gotten her musical style from but that just makes her all the more unique. It’s clear to the ear whose music Ane Brun’s resemble albeit not knowing her source of musical inspiration. If you make a cocktail out of Antony Johnson from Antony and the Johnsons, the Swedish sisterly duo First Aid Kit and the Icelandic rarity Björk you will probably get Ane Brun. Her voice has that smidge of vulnerability and mysticism in it, which takes her music and lyrics to another level.
Ane Brun was born in 1997 in Norway but currently lives in Stockholm. Although she started playing in front of live audiences and recording her first demos in Norway in 1999 her musical career actually kicked off after she moved to Uppsala in 2001. Her debut album ´Spending Time with Morgan´ came out 2002 after her move to Stockholm, and in 2003 her music swept 11 European countries off their feet, making her appear on international channels for the first time.
She took a break right after her Europe tour due to exhaustion, but recuperated after 6 months where she appeared under the limelight in yet another European tour. Her second album A Temporary Dive was released 2005 in Europe, but also for the first time in the US, Japan and Australia. This is when she reached worldwide recognition. A Temporary Dive created an incredible media buzz and she started receiving music nominations from all over Europe. That year she took home the Norwegian Grammy for Best Female Artist.
Ane Brun has released numerous albums since then and her career is continuing in an upward trajectory and will have landed her right in the heart of Stockholm on December 3. This show is perfect for the winter and will without doubt be inspirational. If Ane Brun hasn’t been introduced into your life yet, it’s about time. She is guaranteed to bring out the dreamer, adventurer and aspirer in you.
