As the original shock rocker Arthur Brown has influenced everyone from Alice Cooper through Kiss to Marilyn Manson. The Crazy World of Arthur Brown emerged with the unmistakable single Fire that took the Hammond organ and burning helmet combination all the way to number one in the UK and number two in the US in 1968.

The concept of mixing horror, rock music and a theatrical performance was new to the pop charts and the outlandish live shows landed him in trouble – he got arrested and deported from Italy after stripping naked on stage and setting his hair on – you guessed it – fire. Experience the spectacle, and the psychedelic music as a sidenote, at Debaser on Thursday.
