Is there anything Swedes love more than a good, old-fashioned fika? Not much, it seems. Coffee producer Gevalia has taken a look at Swedish coffee habits, and it seems that an average Swede sits on his or her coffee break for a total of 43 minutes per working day – 16 minutes at work and 27 on their free time. That’s 227 hours – or nine and a half whole days – per year. And just in case you thought otherwise, it’s not the women who sit and talk over coffee most – they settle for an average of one fika break per working day, while men average 1.3 coffee breaks per day.

Despite the plethora of coffee options available today, 55 percent of Swedes still prefer to drink a regular cup of filter coffee, Gevalia reports, but that differs a bit depending on where you live. 18 per cent of Stockholmers say they prefer caffè latte the most, while in Norrland only two percent have it as their favourite drink.
