The top ten Stockholm restaurants to eat at *right now*
“Where should I eat *right now*?” is the question we are most often asked by Stockholm locals and visitors alike. That is why we bring you The Eat List, an “it list” for foodies.
The Eat List is for you – the flavour-crazy, produce-curious, restaurant-obsessed, hotspot-hunting gastronaut that just can’t live without being exactly where the culinary action is. This is not a list of restaurant recommendations or reviews, nor is it a directory of the newcomers. The Eat List a compilation of where the Stockholm foodies currently swarm – and where you also should be *right this minute*. If you can get a table, that is. Eat away!
Shibumi
Follow the narrow staircase down into the basement underneath the old Jarla theatre to find one of the city’s most buzzing restaurant experiences. The Shibumi izakaya is chef Sayan Isaksson’s third venue and is already booked solid due to its small gastronomic treats, its heavenly cocktails and its great atmosphere.

Lilla Ego
This Söder neighbourhood restaurant is the egotistical pursuit of chefs Tom Sjöstedt and Daniel Räms, but with a mission to create an unpretentious and generous spot where the focus is on good food, great personnel and a relaxed personable atmosphere. Foodwise, Lilla Ego is described as a hybrid between fine and “ugly” dining.

Nook
Street food meets fine dining at yet another Söder restaurant with lofty ambitions. Chef Claes Grännsjö’s casual dining room offers a multicultural gastronomic excursion that spans all the globe – in a good way. Bring out your inner explorer for this unique dining experience.

Farang
Conceived by Finnish chefs Tomi Björck and Matti Wikberg in Helsinki in 2006. Farang now also enriches Stockholm with the same relaxed and exotic dining experience that our neighbouring country in the east has enjoyed for so long. We are impressed – both by the Southeast Asian flavours, but also by the stunning restaurant itself.

Mikkeller Bar
Danish microbrewery Mikkeller has gained quite a devoted fan base all over the world – and Sweden is no exception. The ultra-cool brand recently set up shop in Vasastan and offers 20 taps to choose from, ranging from their own beers to those of other great breweries. A selection of gourmet snacks is also available.

Frantzén
Ranked as number 23 on the list of the world’s best restaurants and possessor of two Michelin stars, it doesn’t get much better than Frantzén. Recently renovated and located in the old town. Björn Frantzén is back in the kitchen wowing 17 lucky guests with refined and creative dishes from a set menu.

Matbordet
Mathias Dahlgren is expanding his repertoire beyond the traditional restaurant experiences of Matsalen and Matbaren through the creation of Matbordet. At Matbordet – ‘dining table’ in English – ten strangers share a meal along a predetermined topic, resulting in something that borders between a meal and a conversation.

Phil’s Burger
Burger-dense Stockholm has gotten yet another hot spot dedicated to the classic fast food dish. Many describe the double cheese at Phil’s Burger as the city’s best burger. The toned-down space on Fleminggatan feels refreshingly unhip – Philip (Phil) and his crew’s only focal point is to create the very best burger in town.

Oaxen Krog & Slip
A meal at Oaxen simply cannot go wrong. Whether one opts for the fine dining at Krog, or the Nordic bistro-like cuisine at Slip, there just is no way you’ll leave this quintessential Stockholm restaurant feeling anything other than great. At Oaxen, food is pure and simple pleasure.

Babas Burgers & Bites
A few years ago, few Stockholmers would consider even travelling ten minutes outside the city centre for a bite to eat. But with the opening of Babas in the suburb of Rågsved (27 minutes by subway), there is proof that even out-of-downtowners can cook a mean burger, and we are very fond of Babas mix-and-match system.
