Twin Peaks Festival
We all remember those eerie scenes in Twin Peaks from our childhood: Killer Bob, the dancing dwarf, the riddle-speaking giant, the diner, the doughnuts, and the damn good coffee. When it came out in the early 90s Twin Peaks revolutionized television, and it has produced a huge cult following that just keeps on growing, inspiring fan fests around the world.
Charlotte Prag had been working as a dancer for years when she decided to go to film school, where she was taught in LA by Robert Engels, co-writer of Twin Peaks. As a huge fan of the show and with a background in event management, she thought this would be a great chance to put together a Twin Peaks festival in Stockholm, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Fire Walk With Me.
“The main purpose of the festival is to bring together different art forms: art exhibit, live music, dance, and film. The festival host is a circus artist, we have a seminar with Robert Engels, and the party will have a lot of fun happenings. This is supposed to be an event for the fans created by the fans.“
When and how did you get into Twin Peaks?
I watched Twin Peaks when it was first released and I loved it! Twin Peaks was a big thing for everybody. The family gathered around the TV to watch it, and I remember it being so scary! I don’t know why I was even allowed to watch it.
What inspired you to put this festival on?
I know there’s a lot of Twin Peaks fans in Sweden. You hear about the show a lot here and it’s been on TV several times, so I expected there to be a big crowd for this. Also, I really wanted to bring Robert Engels here, I loved his classes and he’s a great guy, so I wanted more people to meet him. And of course, I’m a big fan of the show!
Why do you think Twin Peaks is so popular still to this day?
It’s the whole atmosphere of the show, mixed with nostalgia. A lot of people watched it when growing up and it was such a big thing when it was on TV. It just represents that time in your life. Also, it has crazy characters, a great story, and is just generally scary and intriguing. The way David Lynch works with images is really special.
Who’s your favourite character?
They’re all so good in different ways, but I would probably have to say Dale Cooper because he’s so positive and so perfect!
The festival takes place on November 25. More info here.
