Georges Adéagbo, La naissance de Stockholm..! / Stockholms födelse..!

Beninese sculptor Georges Adéagbo’s maiden Swedish show La naissance de Stockholm is going straight into the finer salons of Stockholm culture as it opens at Moderna Museet. Famed for reflecting the cities in which he exhibits by using objects he finds there, he has now turned his eye to Stockholm for the latest of his complex and intriguing installations.

One of the most important parts of Adéagbo’s method is to explore the charged cultural meaning via its objects and happenings. His work is full of complex collages, where the city and its history and culture is explored. In the exhibition La naissance de Stockholm..! Adéagbo creates a meeting between Sweden and Benin, his birth place, to create new cultural stories and meetings.

Something of a cultural magpie, he picks up books, magazines and clothes at flea markets around Stockholm and brings them together with illustrations, wooden carvings and his own hand-written texts – come see the result at Moderna until September 7.

Georges Adéagbo, La naissance de Stockholm..! / Stockholms födelse..! is on display until September 7.
