Sturgill Simpson @ Bryggarsalen, September 26
Around ten years ago, Sturgill Simpson was part of the band Sunday Valley, a band that played rootsy music and had some success in the early years of the ´00s. Alas, Simpson left, released the country heavy High Top Mountain and was accepted as a country musician.
Hailing from Jackson, Kentucky, there are no doubt about Sturgill Simpson’s southern influences. After leaving Sunday Valley, releasing High Top Mountain and settling down to write new material to a follow-up to his 2013 hit, Simpson tried to achieve something more open than his solo debut. Something that experimented with what country should sound like, and what words you can utter for it to even be considered country. The album that was the result of these sessions is Metamodern Sounds in Country Music. A revolutionary album that will be remembered for a long, long time. You do not want to miss this guy as he’s blessing our city with his presence.
